I’m a goal person. I make too many lists and get ton of satisfaction from crossing out my “to-do’s.” So naturally it would make sense that I treat my fitness the same way.
But lately I’ve found that I’ve fallen into a rut and guess what the culprit is? No goals. Without a race or special event or anything in particular coming up on the horizon I’ve just been trekking down my usual paths in a treadmill-like fashion. This means it’s time to shake it up.
Instead of trying to squeeze as many miles into a week as I can, I’ve decided to mix more regular strength training and rollerblading into my weeks to keep things interesting. Also with the brutal heat and humidity I’m taking the focus off speed and instead looking to explore new areas of the island I haven’t run before.
This week I’m going to take a bus or get a ride out to Madaket (west end of Nantucket) and run home from there. I find when I have a destination rather than a loop I have more of a purpose.
I have less than three weeks left at home so I’ve made the following goals:
- Go for at least 1 morning run
- Go for at least 1 9+ mile run
- Explore as many new trails as possible
- Strength train 2x per week
