Save Money, Have Fun and Eat Tons of… Nut Butter
It doesn’t take readers long to see that I may have a minor addiction to nut butters. I try to keep it to one serving a day (try being the opperative word) but they aren’t the cheapest spread on the block.
Also my love of recipes, DIYing and general life hacking drove me to make my own Almond Butter.
Warning: this takes a bit of patients and a good food processor (but it’s so worth the wait).
What You’ll Need:
- 1 Bag of Slivered Dry Roasted Almonds (salted or unsalted)
- Tsp Canola Oil
How to Make Almond Butter:
- Pour slivered Almonds into food processor and grind
This is the only thing you have to do but it takes a long time – which is why I use slivered to start with.
It will go through a couple stages: First, the machine chops the nuts into a find flour-like substance, this lasts for a while. Next, clumps start to form. No fear this is just the oil being extracted and mixing up. You may have to stop your processor every few minutes to de-clump. I added a little bit of oil to get things moving a long but I’ve seen recipes that don’t. Stick with it, eventually the familiar creamy nut buttery texture you know and love will start to form.

Questions:
- What’s your favorite kind of nut butter?
- What is the best vehicle for nut butters?
- Have you had any crazy good flavors before?
I always make my own nut butter! I add cinnamon and coconut to almond butter but my fav is definitely pistachio butter!
Coconut! That sounds heavenly. I’ve never tried pistachio- looks like I’ll have to break out the food processor again in the near future. Thanks for stopping by Davida, have a great weekend.
