Ithaca 5&10 Race Recap

September 8, 2013 by Georgie @ The Long Run

Ithaca 5 Mile Race RecapInstead of a Late Night Light Bites post, this week I’m posting a quicky race recap (mostly pics).

On Sunday, (9/8) I ran in the Ithaca 5&10 which is exactly what it sounds like, a 5 and 10 mile race. I ran the 5 mile route in 41:47 (8:22 pace).

My goal was to come in under 45 minutes so I was really excited. It was a very flat course which is a rare gem in Ithaca (so. many. hills.)

This was my longest race to date, I’ve only run two 5ks before and I honestly had such a great experience. It made me really excited for my first ever 1/2 marathon in November.

I was so grateful to have my sister there to drive me, cheer me on, take some pictures and be my brunch buddy post-race.

I was clearly excited to see her as I approached the 3rd mile mark.

The announcer at the finish line was pretty fabulous. His favorite line “leave nothing in the tank.”Ithaca 5 Mile Race Recap Ithaca 5 Mile Race Recap Ithaca 5 Mile Race RecapThanks Nell for taking this awesome shot (exactly when I finished.)Ithaca 5 Mile Race Recap Screen shot 2013-09-08 at 11.15.03 PMNot quite sure how it happened, but my bib read “Emily Morley” and I was 19… oops! So while I was still 25th out of 93 for women (91st out of 189 overall) I was not actually 3rd in my age group because I’m not really 19. I looked at the results and it looks like I would have been 13th out of 36 in my actual age group.Ithaca 5 Mile Race Recap

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

This weekend I also started, then wrote about my new CSA share for the semester.

what a great feeling, indeed! loved, ‘leave nothing in the tank’ toward the end of your race, however obnoxious! And yes, it’s always great to have a pit crew with photo skills to boot!
