Post-Training Withdrawals

November 8, 2013 by Georgie @ The Long Run

Happy Friday! It’s been a surprisingly low-key relaxing week which, oddly enough, has caught me off guard. For the last ten weeks I’ve had a race, a goal, a driving force pushing me to run and workout almost every day. But now it’s over I feel a little lost. I’ve gone to the gym and I’ve felt like I’ve been on autopilot. I mentioned that I want to focus on strength training and more group classes, but I haven’t quite synced up with my new goals.

I do feel a lot of relief now that I’m not really training for anything, but at the same time I miss that motivation. I’m also struggling with my post-training diet and veganism because I’m not quite sure what my body needs for fuel. It’s a bizarre thing that I’ve been feeding myself almost my entire life but I still don’t always feel like I’m doing it right. I guess that’s the fun/interesting/challenging part is that everything changes including what, how much and how often you need food.

(However I do know I always need/love some coffee <3)Red Eye Coffee

As the weather gets colder and the skies get darker earlier I certainly miss my early fall runs, but I’m determined to fit in a couple each week that are still outside. Love me some gym time, but I often get claustrophobic running in place. My sister and I were also acknowledging how you can’t think too much about what’s floating around in the gym’s air or else you’ll never want to workout again. It gets so stuffy and farty and sweaty and stale in there. I’d take an open road over a treadmill any day.

PLANKLooks like I need a new adventure. Maybe fitness and food related, maybe not. It’s great to take a break but not for too long. I’m ready to break a sweat again.

Let’s hear it:

  • How do you set new goals?
  • Do you ever feel out of sync with your workouts/diet?
  • What kinds of workouts do you do in the winter?

I have some of the same thoughts! I feel like I’m doing something wrong in terms of nutrition, just not sure how to feed myself for training without overdoing it. I’ve found myself on autopilot workouts in the gym before and am hoping to find some good classes to keep me pumped. As for winter…that shall be interesting because I’m from California and well, it’s quite different from NY. I’ve already dipped into running in 40F weather, which rarely happened in CA

It sounds like we’re in a similar predicament! I’m excited to start doing more group classes because I’m definitely more motivated when I’m surrounded by others. Good luck with your winter runs!
