Dear Running,
You were never a stranger, I knew you growing up. I’d do the mile during gym class once a year and vow that we could never be a thing. Once I started going to the gym after school for fun we’d flirt a little more on the treadmill, but we still hadn’t clicked.
It wasn’t until I had come home from my first year of college for the summer that I fell for you, Running. It started off just 3 miles at a time, but I fell for you fast and 3 miles became 6 miles. That summer I’d run every evening after work. I couldn’t get enough.
But it got harder as I went back to school. I’d still run, but it wasn’t the same as that first summer. As school got busier I’d have less and less time. But as soon as summer came around I remembered why I had fallen for you.
Finally I took the plunge and signed up for a half marathon. It wasn’t easy, but you pushed me to be better and I’ll never give up on you and I know I’ve just started. I’m ready to go the distance. Sometimes we need our space. I’ll spin, I’ll lift and of course I’ll rest, but I’ll always come back to you.
I’m so grateful for everything I’ve learned from you.
What Running Has Taught Me:
- I’m stronger than I thought
- Hard work pays off
- Trust the process
- Some days are harder than others- those days teach me the most
- The best way to start is starting
- Breathe
- A good playlist can change everything
I can’t wait to see where the future takes us,
The action shot of you running full go all out says it all!
Just found your blog and I loved this post! It was like reading my own personal relationship with running. I NEVER would have thought that I could run a mile in middle school and now I have 2 half marathons under my belt 🙂
Thanks for stopping by! It’s crazy to look back and see how much progress you make, which definitely helps in setting new goals.
Yes, hard work certainly pays off and is so apparent in running! 🙂
