WIAW: A Day in the Life

October 15, 2014 by Georgie @ The Long Run

Along with sharing yesterday’s eats I thought it would be fun to do a little “Day in the Life Post.” Not that I’m living a super glamorous life, but as a nosy person myself I love hearing a bit about what healthy living bloggers do other than the cooking/working out and eating (not that I don’t love hearing about that!)

Wake Up Call: 5:30 am

Ok, so I don’t normally wake up this early but I’m trying to make it a thing. I eventually want to start working out early, so I want to ease into it. I also know I’m not super productive late at night so I want to take advantage of AM creativity. This also means I’ve been going to bed around 10pm #noshame.

Eat Breakfast: 7:00 am

Vegetarian What I ate Wednesday

Made an acai smoothie bowl with berries, spinach, vega protein & banana then topped it with granola, sunflower seeds, plums and coconut chips. Stay tuned on Friday I’ll be sharing a recipe how to make delicious acai smoothie bowls! (I’m super pumped)

WERK: 8:30 am

Head into work where I manage the social media at Bai. A typical day involves planning and creating content for Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest & Instagram, writing blog posts, working on strategies for audience growth. Right now we’re focusing heavily on the launch of our brand new line of sparkling drinks: Bai Bubbles. It’s a fun, fast-paced job. There’s a lot of energy as we’re a growing brand.

Snack time: 12pm

Vegetarian What I ate Wednesday

Somersaults sent some goodies to the office so I tried the sea salt, they were very salty, but paired really nicely with Cherry Bai Bubbles

Lunch: 1:30 pm

Vegetarian What I ate Wednesday

Enjoyed a big ol salad with arugula, tomatoes, seeds, mozzarella, tomatoes drizzled with balsamic glaze and a bit of tahini (yes I’m totally on a tahini kick)

Afternoon Snack 4:00 pm

Vegetarian What I ate Wednesday

On the home stretch– after a meeting talking about our Facebook strategy I snacked on the raspberry white chocolate quest bar. It took me a little while to like these bars but now I’m hooked. Yes they aren’t as healthy as a whole food like almonds or a hard boiled egg – but they’re delicious and have a ton of protein without as much crap as most bars, and I have a killer sweet tooth that needs taming.

New Gym! 5:45 pm

About a month ago I left the Planet Fitness I was going to. It just wasn’t my jam. A little too minimalist, not enough space to do any HIIT exercises, zero-frills and it was in a dodgy part of town. Whenever I went to lift weights a million guys would stare creepily and yeah I don’t like being disturbed when I’m in the zone.

So I found a gym that’s super close to my house called Retro Fitness. It’s another chain and after I got over all the horrible graphic design EVERYWHERE I actually really liked it! The people were so much nicer and they have way more space and equipment. It’s no Equinox (someday, someday) but it’s a big step up.

I set up a time for an initial free training and I’m looking forward to making some fitness goals. When I told the trainer I wasn’t that interested in losing weight and I cared more about getting stronger he seemed so pleasantly surprised. I said if I lost weight I wouldn’t be mad but it’s not really my biggest concern. (it’s an awesome feeling)

Dinna: 8:00 pm

Vegetarian What I Ate Wednesday

After showering I whipped up a quick salad with cabbage, carrots and edamame and topped it with a sweet potato and tahini. This is pretty typical: throw together veggies from my fridge put some kind of sauce/dressing on them and chow down. To be honest, during the week I don’t have the patients for doing anything to complicated which is why food prep and strategic grocery shopping is a life saver.

The rest of the night I watched a little New Girl, read some blogs, cleaned and snacked on some crystallized ginger (my kryptonite) – it was another early night to help me wake up early.

Oh! Also my sister and I booked our trip to London for Christmas and New Years. OMG I am beyond excited! I’ve missed London so so so so so so much.

Thanks Jen for hosting the linkup!

I wish I could function at 5:30am like you! I prefer to just do my own thing at the gym, I treat it as my time with no distractions.

Go, girl! Keep us updated on the training sesh’es — maybe we can all learn something! 🙂 Also looking forward to your acai post… I gotta get on that grind!

Will do! I’ve been working with the trainer for Bai (sweet work perk) and I’ve definitely learned how important form is!

I have really been trying to wake up early and get things done! After work, I notice my motivation level ,especially now that it is getting darker earlier, is way down! Your job seems really neat, by the way! When I do go to the gym, I usually just like to do my thing and go..unless, of course, I am teaching a class, then I really enjoy socializing and getting to know the participants.

Being a fitness instructor seems like such a fun job! I’m sure you motivate so many people. I’m bummed how dark it is in the morning AND in the evening. At least it’s not super cold yet.

I have so many things I want to say haha LONDON?!! So cool. I’m glad you found a better gym 🙂 I’ve never been to a Planet Fitness but I haven’t heard amazing things. Also, what is crystalized ginger?? Sounds amazing.

What a fun sounding job- a social media gig sounds in your realm! For a second I thought you snacked on highlighter pens…. I love that quest bar flavour though- so good (some others…not so much)

If I was hungry enough, those pens would definitely look tasty. Totally agree – there are 4 flavors I love and the rest are kinda meh.
