What I Ate Wednesday: Little Changes

April 8, 2015 by Georgie @ The Long Run

Today I’m linking up with Jenn & friends for What I Ate Wednesday, where I share a day’s worth of meals & snacks.

Tuesdays man. Amirite? Really, I have nothing to complain about, but rainy Tuesdays can take it out of you (at least it’s not snow.) Some sun, maybe a change of scenery would be lovely, buuuut I don’t want to be the kind of person who is always wanting and wishing for things or making excuses like “#ICantEvenTuesdayRightNow.” I want to be the person who says “not feeling my best, what small changes can I make to pick myself up?”

Post Workout Breakfast: Vega Protein & Molokai Coconut Bai 5

A couple weeks ago I talked about changing my workout routine and switching to AM workouts. So far so good! I’m loving the extra time I have in the evenings and the extra sleep I’m getting. Plus, I’ve (finally) started running again which gives me a reason to hop out of bed… ok, hop isn’t the right word… roll maybe? Fall?

Lunch: Tuna Sweet Potato Burger with Tahini over Arugula with Walnuts & Hemp Seeds

Snacks: Brownie Batter Energy Bite, Mango Fig Barย & Banana with Peanut Butter

Anywhoo, little changes. Finding ways to be present. That’s what I’m striving for. Not perfection. Not a miracle. Not a silver bullet. Yesterday’s dinner was a good example. After a low energy day, I wanted something bright and cheery for dinner and since I haven’t been having as many smoothies for breakfast (because I don’t really eat before the gym) I realized that a smoothie bowl would be a perfect dinner. I loaded it up with bananas, cherries, spinach, kefir, ginger and yeahhh I went a little nuts with the toppings: coconut, hemp seeds, sunflower seeds, goji berries and almond butter. It hit the spot.

If you’re at all into middle eastern/greek food tahini is amazing! I love it on squash…. and literally everything, lol.

Banana and peanut butter is a combination sent from heaven. I love eating it after a workout ๐Ÿ™‚ and I am definitely a morning exerciser! I am a morning person in general. I love the feeling of having a whole day ahead of you.

Same! So much energy and potential. I don’t mind evenings but I always struggle with my focus/energy in the afternoon (2-5pm)

So glad that you are sticking with morning workouts…It is nice to come home at the end of a long day and not have to worry about squeezing it in. Plus, you get to come home…get in comfy clothes…and RELAX. And I totally believe it helps you sleep better. And also happy you are running more…sending Spring vibes your way!

I totally needed a looong hiatus because now I’m back into running I feel like I’m falling in love with it all over again. Best feeling. Also I love being able to come home and chill out and I’ve been sleeping way more/better.

That tuna burger looks/sounds divineeeee. I’m a morning OR night exercises as of lately…basically whenever I can fit it in hahah but I preferrer mornings for sure. I like starting my day on the right foot and getting it out of the way so to speak.

If I had my choice I’d workout in the middle of the day (which I like to on weekends) but alas I like getting it in before I even have a chance to make an excuse. Sometimes I’m half way through a run when my brain wakes up and says “oh, ok, cool.” The tuna burgers are so easy to make – I adapted them from thelittlehoneybee.com’s salmon cakes.

Hooray for morning workouts! That’s one of the things I do love about getting in early workouts – more time to relax in the evening! I’ve got to get on that tuna burger – how delicious! (esp with that tahini dollop ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Hi Georgie! Happy WIAW to you too! I remember when I first switched to morning workouts back when I was in the corporate world, and it made my days so much more stress free, knowing that I didn’t have to leave work early to hit the gym. These days, working in fitness, I get my workouts done at all hours (or when teaching classes), so it’s not as easy to do them in the morning. Nonetheless, small changes are right. And I’ve never had a smoothie bowl for dinner, but I may need to change that!

Great eats…so clean looking! I am one who likes to try and exercise in the morning…but always end up doing it later. Afternoon/evening times.

      April 8, 2015 at 9:02 pm

I probably have more energy in the afternoon, but more motivation in the AM – so right now I’m going for “whatever works”

This is going to sound so strange but I have a pair of neon pink underwear that makes me laugh every time I see them in my drawer. I wear them whenever I need a pick-me-up. Probably more than anyone on the Internet wants to know about me!

      April 8, 2015 at 9:52 pm

Love it! Honestly a good pair of underwear cannot be underestimated. Neon? I’m sold.
