The First Foodie Swap

May 15, 2015 by Georgie @ The Long Run

Have you ever gotten that package notification in your mail box and you know exactly what it’s for and you just cannot wait to get to the post office? Yeah. That was me last weekend when I realized Lauren’s package was waiting for me.

Today I’m sharing the fantastic contents of Lauren’s Foodie Swap package, but before I do, it’s important you get a little context…

For a long time I heard bloggers throw around this idea of building your community, your tribe. It made sense in theory. Band together with a group of individuals on a similar mission and together you’re stronger than the sum of your parts. Your-Vibe-Attracts-Your-Tribe1

And for a long time, while I acknowledged this advice was good, I ignored it. Until finally it dawned on me that I was blogging in isolation. I was doing nothing to ignite the sparks of connection I made through interacting with other bloggers. I was a lonely nomad wandering the vast interwebs.

I realized it was high time to find my tribe.  I just had this itch or a hunch &or maybe a hinch?) that community was the missing piece to my blogging puzzle. A couple months ago, I reached out to some fabulous bloggers, with an invitation. I asked if they’d be interested in building a small but fierce little community of healthy living bloggers whose purpose was to share their knowledge and passion and inspire each other, and our little Facebook group “Bloggers Gonna Blog” was born.

bloggersgonnablog

It was a little nerve wracking going out on a limb and asking these fantastic chicas if they’d want to be a part of this seedling of a tribe. What if it failed? What if no one cared? But my worries have been proven so wrong, because all the ladies in BGB have been incredibly supportive to the entire tribe. BGB is thriving because of their collective awesomeness. It honestly affirms my once hunch, and now full belief, that blogging is a social act and success doesn’t grow in isolation.

Ok so what the heck is a foodie swap?

Fair question.

Going out on a limb (as it seems I often do) I asked if anyone would be interested in joining a foodie care package swap. Each member who joined would exchange care packages filled with fun snacks and treats and a handwritten note.

My swap buddy was Lauren, blogger behind Clean Plate Diaries. When I opened my package I was blown away by her thoughtfulness. Obviously I love all the treats but hands down the best part was her lovely note. I will always be a sucker for handwritten letters. There’s something so special about the permanence and personalness of a physical letter.

In My Swap Box

I honestly don’t know what to go for first. I was so tickled to see the different ginger products and cannot wait to dig in. I’ve always wanted to try Green & Black’s ginger chocolate. I also love that Lauren included a treat from the coffee shop she used to work in! Oh oh oh and I also can’t wait to make her pancakes with the chickpea flour. Basically Christmas came early. (To any potential dudes out there, take note, the way to my heart is clearly food.)

I love this idea, how fun! I love walking through the grocery stores and checking out all the new things so this would be fun to try things I may not have or ones others things that I would like.
I would love to know about the Trader Joe’s Ginger Cookies!! I LOVE ginger and I just bought those same cookies in Lemon for the girls but haven’t opened them yet. I’m going to have to put the ginger ones on my list!

That was definitely a big part of the impetus of this project because I love grocery shopping but I get stuck in my ruts sometimes so it’s so much fun to shop for someone else and have someone else do the same for you!

I absolute love being a part of the FB group and I love making these connections and building my own tribe myself. I think that that can be the hardest part of blogging, but once you make those connections it makes blogging such a different experience and one where you are meeting people from all over the world!
