Cherry Watermelon Limeade

July 2, 2015 by Georgie @ The Long Run

This Cherry Watermelon Limeade is the perfect summer flavor trifecta. This summer sipper is refreshing and just the right balance of sweet and tart.

Despite my recent summer funk, my tastebuds have been loving this warm weather and all the wonderful seasonal fruits that come with it. Watermelon and cherries will forever be linked to the beach in my mind. I grew up on Nantucket and on beach days we’d always pack lunches and what beach lunch is complete with out fruit-ppetizers and fruit-sserts? Aka watermelon and cherries of course seasoned with the occasional pinch of sand by accident.

As a kid I was always a bit of a juice and lemonade lover, they typically joined the fruit in our beach cooler. While sodas were a no-no in our house, I was still allowed my apple juice and lemonade which, while delicious, are still packed with sugar. As I got older I pretty much stopped drinking anything but water and coffee, however I’d argue you can find a happy balance when it comes to drinks.

Obviously water should be your number one. And if you wanted to stop there I wouldn’t blame you. However, if you enjoy the refreshment and flavor that comes with a nice drink between meals, as a pick me up or to pair with your food there are a surprising amount of healthy options.

My Favorites

Since I started working in the healthy beverage industry a year ago, I really started to realize how many great new drinks on the market that are lower in calories and sugar, add functional benefits and are even made with natural ingredients. A couple of my favorites include cold brew coffee, kombucha, coconut water, cold press juices, unsweetened ice teas oh and I guess I kind of have to give a shoutout to Bai 😉

And of course, the whole point of this post is to share a healthy homemade refreshing summer drink. This Cherry Watermelon Limeade is lower in sugar and even has the benefit of fiber because rather than juicing you’re blending.

    Total summer! tart and sweet!
I’m a total no frills drinker. Just water, black coffee, and tea 😛 I appreciate fancy drinks and smoothies, but I never actually drink them myself! Haha!

Totally get that. In the end I usually prefer to eat my calories but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy some different types of drinks and dranks

I like to mix it up and drink different drinks, especially in the summer to keep hydrated. Sparkling water is my favorite summer sip!

This sounds SO refreshing – I love cherries and watermelon in anything! I’m usually more of a straight up coffee/water/smoothie kind of girl.
