Almond Butter and Jelly Smoothie

September 15, 2015 by Georgie @ The Long Run

Almond butter, strawberries and bananas blend beautifully into a smoothie that tastes like an all-American classic.

Simplicity is totally underrated. We’re definitely living in a society that’s obsessed with being busy. In college, I worked 3 jobs, took 18 credits, was on multiple e-boards and loved being the girl who did everything. I was addicted to that feeling of importance that being busy gave me. I loved went people asked me “how do you do it all?”

But to be honest, even though I felt a sense of accomplishment from by being part of so much, I really short changed myself in a lot of ways. I never truly felt committed to anything. I was the jack of all trades and master of none. I felt like I was always telling myself the same excuse “I’d be great at this if I had time…”

I don’t think I’d want to go back and change anything because operating that way taught me so much about what I don’t want to do again. It’s a lesson I don’t think you can learn unless you experience it. However, I love what simplifying my life has done for my happiness, stress levels, productivity, creativity, learning and true sense of accomplishment. Finally I’m focusing on 2 or 3 things at a time instead of 10.

I am so far from perfect at this and struggle HARD with my multitasking addiction, but cleansing myself from my busy-ness obsession has helped me transform my blog, which has in turn opened so many incredible opportunities. So if you’re feeling like “OMG there’s never enough time” all the time, then it might be time to take an honest look at how you can simplify.

Speaking of simplicity, this smoothie is a delicious example. Only 5 simple ingredients pack bold flavor. I had my sister be my taste tester and her first comment was “Mmm it tastes like America.” So there you have it. If you’re looking to simplify your life and want a smoothie that literally tastes like America then start here.

This is such a “Georgie” smoothie! It looks delicious. And your pictures are gorgeous! Have you ever thought about doing a photography tips post?

Thanks so much Liv – I’ve been thinking about it because I have a list of resources I share with the people who ask/email so I might as well throw it into a blog post – thanks for the suggestion!

Yummm had something very similar to this for breakfast today. And now I want another!

I think I do enjoy being busy, as it does give me a sense of accomplishment. But a few weeks ago I realized I may be in a little over my head at times. Especially when my plans get off track and I don’t know how to react. Then it definitely becomes a problem and I realize it would be good to slow down a tad. 🙂

Being busy in it of itself isn’t always bad, especially if it’s not ALWAYS being busy, but it’s good to recognize when it becomes to much and stops serving you.

This looks super yummy! I am definitely a multi-tasker and love to stay busy. I love having a schedule, but I do need my breaks and me-time thrown in so I don’t become run down.

Totally agree – this summer was crazy busy and a nice change of pace, but it’s nice to balance it with some quiet time

It certainly helped graduating! But in all seriousness I did make a point of ranking all my commitments from most to least important and just had to let some go. To be honest, I didn’t even miss most of them!

The busy syndrome! I totally am right there with you! I would (and still) stack my schedule only to find myself spread thin and not really able to absorb experiences. But, then I’m never bored, double edge sword 🙂

Ahh the FOMO is real when you try to cut down, but I have found, like you said, when you have a little less you can absorb and enjoy more

Living on Nantucket is teaching me to stop being busy and it is hard as heck, but gosh darn it feels good to slow down. To smell the flowers. To do nothing. We are so obsessed with being busy that we freak out when we aren’t. It is sad but true and I AM SO guilty of that!

Nantucket certainly is a dramatic example of living by the season. You slow down to a standstill almost then crank it up for a couple months, but I don’t hate it! This time of year is true bliss here.
