Chai Gingerbread Smoothie

November 17, 2016 by Georgie @ The Long Run

This Chai Gingerbread Smoothie is like drinking Christmas for breakfast.

Chai Gingerbread Smoothie - Vegan, Gluten free

A week from tomorrow is Thanksgiving and then *boom* it’s full-on, full-force, full-steam ahead holiday errythang.

I’m far from the first person to wonder “why does this season have to feel so crazy?” But, seriously, why? Is it because we’re bombarded with more commercialism in every aspect of the season or that we’re seeing so much of what everyone else is doing on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat?

This year I’m asking myself, and hoping you’ll ask yourself the same:

How do I feel like I’m doing enough this holiday?

No FOMO, no disappointment, no comparison, just good ‘ol love and joy.

Not to get too didactic here, but I think the only way we can survive this whole shebang with the joy in our hearts that this season is meant to bring, is to figure out what is important before it all begins.

Chai Gingerbread Smoothie - Vegan, Gluten free

Right now, take a break from whatever you are doing and jot down the 3-5 things that are MOST important about this time of year to you. What are the non-negotiables. What are those 3 to 5 things that really really make you grin ear to ear.

For me, I love making cards. I love sitting down and thinking about all the people in my life I couldn’t live without and making them something each unique and special. If everything else went to shit this Christmas I’d be ok, as long as I could deliver my special cards.

I have recently realized that gift giving might be one of my love languages (no idea what I’m talking about, check out this quiz.) The idea of distilling someone’s passions and personality traits into something special and meaningful that they can cherish really lights me up. And receiving a thoughtful gift, handmade or otherwise, really does fill me with joy too. I was always kind of embarrassed that gifting meant so much to me, but I’ve realized it’s not the material aspect that I like. In fact, my favorite gifts are experiences like travel or concerts. It’s the idea that someone would go out of their way to make me feel special, that really gets me.

Chai Gingerbread Smoothie - Vegan, Gluten free

With all of that said, this year I am going to prioritize my card making and gift giving. To me it’s worth every second and every penny. The last couple years I neglected this aspect of the holidays (in fact, I kind of neglected all of it.) And as a result I felt a little hollow because of it.

Now that my priorities are intact I know that I’ll have a great season no matter what.

So whether it’s baking cookies, going caroling, having that special holiday drink, expert gift wrapping, volunteering, or whatever get’s you going, make that list, check it twice and enjoy the crap out of this holiday season because you deserve it!

Looking for a holiday drank to put you in the mood? Try this epic chai gingerbread smoothie. I reshoot and tweaked the recipe from when I originally posted it 2 years ago.

I envy your spirit. My hope is next year I’ll be closer to my sister who is good at being festive and it will rub off. For now? Hoppin on airplanes.
I wasn’t sure if they’d pair well but I was pleasantly suprised

Don’t think I’ve heard of Macs powder. I’ll keep my eyes out

Wooooot LONDON! Knowing that someone else is getting to travel makes me a lot more excited about life! lol
As cool as the Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa season is, I am quite the “accidental scrooge myself” … it makes me feel better to know that I am not the only one lol. Thanks for the Vega recommendation!!! There’s also another vegetarian-friendly protein powder called Perfect Fit found on Toneitup.com as well as amazon.com. I hear it’s tasty but it’s also quite pricey.

Thanks Kaley! I love reading your comments, they’re always so thoughtful – I’ll check out that Perfect Fit protein – always looking for options. Wish I could bring everyone in my suitcase with me.

Totally – love the creaminess of bananas and tartness of berries, a match made in blender heaven.

Yum! Looks so good! I usually use a whey protein powder but I have the same dairy issues too, ill have to give Vega a try!

I’ve found vegan protein to be a bit pricier, but it’s definitely something worth looking into even if it’s an every other day thing.

I LOVE Vega! It is the only protein powder that I use. I got hooked on it after reading a bunch of Brendan Brazier’s books last summer.

I have been dying to try the Vanilla Chai flavored Vega One. So glad to know you love it — that means I obviously will too 😉

    • Georgie @ The Long Run says

      December 15, 2014 at 9:59 pm

Haha exactly! The nice thing is they have pouches so you can always try before you buy. It’s great for more “spicy” smoothies because it has a strong flavor – so I typically buy the vanilla for every day

I’ve had Vega protein before and it’s delicious. I haven’t really thought about it but think that I will really write down my priorities and stick to them. I’m training for a marathon so that’s extra stuff added onto holiday stress. I think this will help though!

Girl I am 100% with you on this one; last holiday seasons I had some major guilt or fear of missing out and I just really have focused this year on counting God’s many blessings and His mercies this year instead of wanting more and more or to have the perfect holiday. Right where we are is perfect, and it’s so awesome to just prepare in the way that you are most gifted; I would love to hear or see what kinds of cards you make. 🙂 Card making is fun! 🙂

I do love the holiday season. And like you said, it’s really not the material part of gift giving that I love, it’s finding something special that the recipient will enjoy. I pride myself on being a good gift giver! 🙂

This looks seriously delicious! My holiday priorities this year are thoughtful gifts for everyone on my list and also making all five of my family’s favorite Christmas cookie recipes. We often run out of time and leave out a cookie or two–but I want to make them all this year! 🙂

I love this recipe! But also completely relate to what you said about the holiday season. Being bombarded with commercialism can really take away from the joy of the season! I agree, it’s so helpful to keep reminding yourself of what’s important, for us it’s enjoying good food with friends and family. Happy holidays and thanks for sharing!
