4 Ways to Create a Healthier, Less Toxic Home

July 24, 2019 by Georgie @ The Long Run

This post is sponsored by Aunt Fannie’s all opinions are my own

The more I learn about wellness, the more I realize how many other factors contribute to our health beyond just what we eat and how we move. Creating a healthy and safe home is a huge part of the wellness equation. The goal isn’t to be perfect, or live in fear of chemicals, but to do our best to be mindful of our environment and how it impacts our well being. In partnership with my friends at Aunt Fannie’s, I wanted to share my top 4 tips for creating a healthier, less toxic home.

1.) Swap to Natural Cleaning Products

My favorite brand of cleaning products is Aunt Fannie’s. I love them for a lot of reasons but here is my top: in addition to taking out harmful chemicals they also add 100% essential oils which make the products smell amazing and fresh. Once you make the switch to natural cleaning and personal care products you won’t want to go back because they smell so fresh. Aunt Fannie’s works hard to make sure all their products get A ratings from the EWG (Environmental Working Group) so you know that it’s not just greenwashing.

I had the founder Mat on the Chasing Joy Podcast and he was one of my favorite guests. If you want to learn more about why Matt founded Aunt Fannie’s and the passion and research he puts into each product definitely take a listen. I know I learned so much about creating a healthier home.

2.) Open Your Windows

Due to the amount of chemicals and pollutants that come off of so many of our home products, the air inside our houses can often be more polluted than the air outside. Pollutants in our home get trapped in the inside air unless we let new fresh air in. Not to mention letting some fresh air in your house can make your home smell and feel nicer.

3.) Fill Your Home with  House Plants

You KNOW I love me some house plants. And guess what? So does your home. Many house plants can double as natural air purifiers. So not only do you get the benefit of caring for a beautiful plant, you get cleaner air as well. Some of the top plants for air purification include: the peace lily, pothos, snack plant, lady palm, flamingo lily & English ivy

4.) Diffuse Essential Oils

One of my favorite ways to make my home feel fresh, smell great and boost my overall mood is diffusing essential oils. One of my favorite mood boosters is citrus scents. With essential oils, quality is so important because they are so potent. Make sure you’re buying from a brand you trust. Bonus: Aunt Fannie’s is made with essential oils making the whole cleaning process smell even more amazing. My favorite Aunt Fannie’s scents are the lavender and citrus. I totally put me in a better mood as I clean.

Thank you to Aunt Fannie’s for sponsoring this post.
